Meeting Minutes
Welcome & Announcements
Ross welcomed attendees and shared that meeting minutes will soon be available on the Mayor’s website and the South Omaha BID website.
Approval of Minutes
November 12, 2025 minutes approved (motion: Eric; second: June).
Introduction – Lucia Pedroza-Estrada
New Community Engagement Coordinator for Pesek Law and point of contact for BID neighbor concerns, issues, and ideas.
OPD Update
Captain Paul Hanson introduced as new Southeast Precinct captain; OPD staff Ofelia Robles and Lt. Jose Nava also present.
Common issues: graffiti, traffic violations, gun possession.
OPD working with businesses on safety: surveillance, graffiti cleanup, staff training.
Community engagement: door-to-door visits on 24th Street (completion expected by end of January), participation in holiday events, promotion of Citizen Police Academy.
BID Year-in-Review
BID renewed for 5 years with a $30,000 annual assessment for daily street cleanup.
Continued focus for BID will be cleanup, safety, beautification, planter maintenance.
Pesek Law purchased a vehicle for BID use; LEDC contributed financially.
Planting Day scheduled for May 23, 2026.
Adelante Project Update (Presented by Itzel Lopez, Chief Executive Officer for LEDC)
Project in Phase 1; Canopy South managing funds; LEDC serving as community liaison.
City identifying replacement parking spaces lost at Plaza de la Raza-deadline Feb 2026.
Questions raised regarding alley access and daycare pickup; space will be allocated.
South 24th Street Updates
LEDC continues partnerships for arts and design programming with Omaha by Design, Thinkscapes, and the City of Omaha.
Ongoing concern about Highway 75 study; uncertainty about potential exit closures. Survey closes Dec 12, 2025.
Itzel Lopez remains in communication with Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT).
